On 29 December 1942, when Rajesh Khanna was born into a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family. He was born ‘Jatin Khanna’ in Amritsar in the Punjab Province of British India, on 29 December 1942. Chunnilal Khanna and Leelawati Khanna, who were relatives of his biological parents, adopted and raised him as their child. His father migrated from West Punjab to Gali Tiwarian in Amritsar after he had migrated from West Punjab. The biological parents of Lala Hiranand Khanna were Chandrani Khanna and Lala Hiranand Khanna. His adoptive parents came from a family of railway contractors from Lahore who had moved to Bombay in 1935 to start a new life in the new city.
