He was an Indian actor, writer, director, and producer with a career that spanned over six decades and was known for his work in Hindi cinema. With Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar, he is a member of one of the most successful trios in Indian cinema, the “Trinity – The Golden Trio,” which was one of the most successful groups of actors in Indian cinema. The Government of India recognized his contribution to Indian cinema by awarding him the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to the film industry. Dev Anand Family and Career:

Born on 26 September 1923, Anand was Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand Shakargarh tehsil of the Gurdaspur district of Punjab (British India) in the Punjab province. As a child, he was raised by the well-to-do Pishori Lal Anand, an advocate in the Gurdaspur District Court. The third son of Anand, Dev was the oldest of the four sons he had. Dev’s younger sister Sheel Kanta Kapur, the mother of film director Shekhar Kapur, is one of Dev’s younger sisters.

The older brothers of Vijay Anand are Manmohan Anand (Advocate, Gurdaspur District Court) and Chetan Anand, while the younger brother is Manmohan Anand. As part of his schooling, he went to Dalhousie Sacred Heart School (then in Punjab) until matriculation, then Government College Dharamshala before going to Lahore to study. Dev completed a B.A. in English Literature from the Government College, Lahore, in British India, where he studied for four years. He is a member of the Anand family and founded Navketan Films with his elder brother Chetan Anand in 1949.

I graduated from Government College, Lahore (then British India), with a B.A. in English literature. In the early 1940s, Anand left his native town for Bombay. As a military censor at Churchgate, he was paid Rs. 65 monthly. In the future, he worked as an accounting clerk for a salary of Rs. 85. As a member of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA), he joined his brother Chetan. Ashok Kumar’s performance in Achhut Kanya and Kismet inspired Anand to become a performer.

A love affair between actor Anand and actress Suraiya lasted between 1948 and 1951. However, they never got married because Suraiya’s maternal grandmother opposed Anand’s proposed marriage.
